Merry Christmas!

My sister told the kids no one was to be downstairs before 7:00 am to open presents....and if someone was, they had to start coffee and make breakfast. About 6:58 am Sarah was coming unglued.  She was banging on my door to wake up.  She didn't know I had been awake since about 6:15 am.  Yes, the festivities started early, but who can complain!  Seeing the kids faces after unwrapping each surprise was so absolutely amazing and worth waiting for.  Yes, I will load pictures...eventually.

For those of you that know me well, and for those of you that have read the "About Me" section on the left hand side of my entries.  This will excite you.  Probably not nearly as much as me...but here goes.  My sister and brother in law are taking me to go whale watching!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh my goodness, you have no clue how excited I was when I opened that envelope.  Yep, I cried.  I assure you, for most of the day I've been singing "I'm going whale watching.  I'm going whale watching"!  I am fascinated by the big ole creatures.  Did I say I was thrilled about this??  Ha ha.

I hope Christmas brought you as much joy as it did for me.  I hope you've counted your blessings and taken the time to be grateful for family, friends, a home cooked meal, a place to rest your head and of course the belief in miracles.  Merry Christmas!!!!

I sure do love y'all.

A Bunch O' Stuff

There's nothing like calling your Momma, who you actually miss to hear her say "I can't talk...we took a DVD from your room and we're watching The Departed"!!!!!  What is that about???  Helllllooooooooo remember me... your "little one"??  Your youngest born???  Hmph!!!

I sat in a plush leather chair yesterday night as I enjoyed dinner and a drink with Michelle at Hamburger Hamlet.  Let me explain about the drink.  Dang it...I can't remember what it was called.  What I can remember, is that after we both drank half the entire restaurant was suddenly extremely warm.  OK, that's a lie.  It was hot.  Does that mean the alcohol was "working"??  I know that answer!!!!  It's sort of funny, sometimes you never realize how much you miss the company of a friend, until you see them again.  I was happy to be sharing time with her, and sad I had not planned it sooner.

I am holding down the Browning household tonight while Pamela and Dave are hanging out with some old friends.   I am happy to "babysit".  Though I don't really like calling it that.  It's a pleasure to have the alone time with the kids....and I got to blow dry hair for both the girls tonight!  I'm blessed!

Ellie is wearing a night shirt that says "I Make My Own Rules".  At dinner, when she was sharing with everyone what it said...she followed it with "Just like you Aunt Rene".  Now ya know that made me smile! :)

Momma Joyce (Stephen's mother) had successful surgery.  The doctor's said they got all the skin cancer from both sites and there were no areas surrounding with disease.  Phew...Thank God.

A huge CONGRATS to FC (my cousin Rachel) she graduated from Penn State today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holiday time is difficult if you've recently "lost" a loved one or if you  are continuing to grieve the loss of someone.  If you have a friend, colleague or neighbor that is grieving or is alone...please, please reach out to them.  Not just for now, but until they are holding firmly to your hand and have their feet a bit more grounded.  Feeling hopeless and empty is no way for anyone to live! With that said, please say prayers for the Vasquez and Baker families.  Clem will be missed terribly.

Count your blessings tonight and say some grateful's.  Remember life is precious and so are those who surround you.  Don't forget people make mistakes, and forgiveness goes a very long way.  Laugh at yourself.  Eat dessert even when your jeans feel like they are going to bust at the seams and don't forget to call your Mom and Dad simply to say I love you.

Good night my friends. I love y'all.

Please Say Prayers For:

Flicking Boogers

DISCLAIMER: I did not title this entry, nor will I explain it!!!

Have you ever tried to explain the definition of "rubber necking" to a kid??  Just curious.  Ha ha!!

I had forgotten how unbelievably pleasant people (please read this knowing my sarcasm) are in Mo County.  Especially, during the holiday season.  Good golly Miss Molly.  I'm certainly not in South Carolina!!  I actually had a woman bang on the windshield of my car, while I was in a parking space.  She asked me to move my vehicle, so she could fit into her car with all her packages.  Now, I wasn't opposed to moving my car.  However, I was in between the lines...and damn, couldn't she have knocked on my window and asked nicely??!!!  Apparently, I didn't move quickly enough for her.  She sort of threw her door open dramatically and climbed into her car as if she was suffocating.  I couldn't help but laugh....oh and I wished her a Merry Christmas of course!

I've finished all my shopping and decided to start wrapping gifts today.  Ellie and I were alone when I started.  My sister should have warned me though....Ellie is going to tell all before Christmas gets here!  She's worse at keeping secrets, than I am!  You can see, it is itching inside of her to tell everyone what their getting from Aunt Rene.

Bowling hasn't been going well for the beau.  He's thinking about hanging those bowling shoes up.  His behavior is actually very comical when he isn't doing well. I have to cover my face, so he doesn't see me chuckling.  I'm thankful ( as he is too) that the league is off for the next three weeks.  I think the break is going to be good for him.

Sunday it was unbelievably cold and windy. I met The Browning Five and Tita and Uncle Al at Tyson's Corner for a late lunch and a movie.  OK, it was such a late lunch....ummmmmm I missedit!  Ha ha.  We saw Alvin and The Chipmunk's. It provided all the kids with great laughs...and that's so contagious, I couldn't help but laugh too.

Did I mention that my haircut looks great??!! Even though, I was asked to grow it out long...seriously I couldn't stand it anymore and butchered the back again.  I wasn't made for long hair.  I don't have that kind of patience. Sorry Stephen!!  :)

Other Stuff:
Stephen and I had Italian subs from Twinbrook deli, again.
I've been given the privilege of blow drying Sarah's beautiful long hair after shower time.
Daniel gave me the biggest hug tonight and I couldn't help but think...life doesn't get any better.
Mom and Dad are still waiting for the new house to pass inspection.
I've been wearing a coat and scarf!!!
I still have a nasty cough.
Momma Joyce is having surgery for skin cancer.
Dinner with Michelle and Michael on Friday.
Babysitting the kids on Saturday.
The anniversary of my cancer diagnosis is just around the corner!!

Still Not Going Anywhere...

We played a board game tonight at the Browning's house, instead of watching a movie for family night.  Trust me when I tell you...this board game only proved (yet again) God isn't ready to take me "home".

Sometimes...

you try BUT you can't seem to forget you have the " C word".  You want to continue to look everyone in the eyes brave and strong.  However, at this moment you couldn't even "fake it".  So, you feel sad, even bitter...wondering for maybe the 100th time, why me...and especially why now.  Then you lay your head on the pillow and try to sleep, with no such luck.  The thoughts are too much.  Your eyes stay open and you notice the clock. It says 3:18 am.  You think to yourself...I need to fall asleep but you know you can't and for the moment won't.  You think of people you haven't spoken to and maybe should and all those who love you dearly while grabbing tissues curious to how many it will take to wipe all the tears and the runny nose.  You want to ask God questions and maybe for a little mercy, when you actually know quite well all the answers you need are some where behind the words you've just written. So, you stop crying. You finish typing your words, knowing all you endure is for a reason and then you continue sharing your inspiration to walk forward and in the moment.

I love y'all. Good night...ummmm morning.

Let The Festivities Begin!

Oh joy!  I love when the Christmas festivities begin! The Browning Christmas tree went up today...and as I type, the kids are hanging ornaments.  The greatest part about the hanging of the ornaments is listening to Pamela tell the story behind each one.  Who it is from, where it is from, or who made it and at what age.  Even if the kids remember the "stories", they eagerly await to hear my sister tell them again.  We all have favorites, and some not so (Shhhhh I didn't say that). Regardless, we all love this "event". I just overheard the call for eggnog!  We enjoy that almost as much!!!

The weekend wasn't so busy.  Though it was cold.  When I tried to leave the house without a coat and scarf....my sister reminded me that I don't have complaining rights if I don't take care of myself.  So, I wore my coat and stuffed my scarf in my purse.  :)  I'm about the worst at following doctor's orders!!

No bowling on Sunday with the man.  He was having some back pain issues and I was tossing cookies.  I'm not sure what from...ohhhh that's right I have cancer.  :)  He handled it much better than I thought...and well I cried like I normally do.

Aunt Barb bought me flannel jammies, an electric blankie and some cool shoes yesterday.  She also made some baked ziti that we all enjoyed. We finished the night watching another gut wrenching Extreme Home Makeovers.  With us ladies....not a dry eye.

Nativity scenes are put out, ornaments are up and the egg nog is yummy.  Life is good.

Please go to the following web site and check out my friend, Nathan's journal.
http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nathanormsby He's such an inspiration and a brave little guy!  We can all learn a little something from his endurance, and love for life.

Rewind

Yes, I'm alive. Someone would have notified you if I had fallen and couldn't get up!! :)

I'll rewind and then catch y'all up to speed. Saturday, Daniel placed third all around in his gymnastics meet.  Now, this doesn't mean he placed third on each apparatus...he actually scored third highest out of all the boys he competed against.   To say I was a proud Aunt doesn't actually cut it. I thought I will going to cry myself silly.

Sunday, before going to the stables to see Sarah ride, Stephen and I had an early breakfast and bowling date.  He didn't bowl very well (I didn't say that though!!) and I wasn't feeling so well.  However, it didn't stop us...and Stephen even got to see Mom and Dad for a short amount of time.

Sarah placed fifth in jumping with her "sassy" horse...said exactly the way she told me.  She proudly showed me her big pink ribbon.  If you could have seen how beautiful she looked and rode that horse....oh my I so have bragging rights!!!

Monday, Stephen and I packed up and ran away for a couple days.  I still had (and have) that nasty cough so we just relaxed.   Tuesday, we did a bit of running around and of course we couldn't miss his league bowling that night.  He did his average...about 206 per game.  As always, I felt proud...and he was too hard on himself.  Wednesday, we drove back to DC during the snow fall.  Ohhhh how I don't miss the cold and snow living in South Carolina!!!!!!  Neither of us really possess the patience for the traffic that the snow causes...but we both love the "buggy game" and so that's how we spent the slow drive back.

Today, the Browning Five played in the snow. Georgia, too! There is a very small snowman in the front yard wearing a very warm scarf.  I should take lessons and wear one too!

I spoke to Jules tonight.  There was a Girl Scout meeting, that I obviously missed.  I got all choked up when the girls yelled hello to me, and one in particular who told me it was sad that I wouldn't see all the Christmas stuff they were making.  :(  I sure do love those girlies!  Ohhh and you too Julie!!  xoxoxoxoxox

Time for bed and coughing up this crap in my lungs.  Did anyone invent a cure for cancer yet?  Lordie my lungs can't even handle a cold anymore!
Don't forget to count your blessings and your grateful's too!  I love y'all!!

GRATEFUL'S:
* Hot tea
* Warm blankets
* Hearing "Aunt Rene"
* Old Friends
* Another day

Please Say Prayers For:

Nathan ~ continuing to do chemo and fight the battle. *For Dawn *Cathy's dad, Bill ~ he is battling ALS and her mom, Pam too. *Ms Bobby ~ she is being treated with radiation. * Mr. Russo ~ continuing to win the battle. *Ms Pammy ~ recovering from surgery and winning the battle. *Cindy ~ she's in remission!! *Tammy she's in remission!!  *Momma Joyce ~ she's cancer free. *Ms Margie ~ she is winning her battle with breast cancer.  *Krissy's husband, John who continues to win the battle. *Trish ~ she is continuing to win her battle with breast cancer. *Sugar ~ she is continuing to win her battle with cancer. *Jay Carey and his family. He is in Iraq fighting the war.*Frances and her son, Matthew.  He is in Afghanistan.

Traffic Filled Afternoon, Late Night.

Hi everyone!  I hope you're still smiling from your Thanksgiving memories and eating leftovers!!  (If you like them!)

David (my brother in law) came back home today.  He was in Utah having discussions about F-16's.  Don't ask me, I know nothing!  The kids were thrilled, my sister as well.

Daniel (nephew) had a private gymnastics lesson today (Friday) at 4:30 pm.  He has an "in house" gymnastics meet to prepare for tomorrow  (Saturday, today really since this will post after midnight).  We left in enough time to get there.  However, traffic was unbelievable.  Believe me when I tell you, that kid could have run to his class and gotten there quicker then the speed we were driving.  Needless to say, he only got 25 minutes worth of that lesson and off we were again into the traffic.
Destination...Olney, MD.  David's parents invited us all over for dinner.  My parents are in town for the weekend and staying with them. (We will all be attending Daniel's "meet' and Sarah's (my oldest niece) riding show on Sunday.)  We got into Olney at 7:00 pm.  We left Bowie, at 5:30 pm.  We basically spent three hours in the Suburban...so what did we do for entertainment you ask?!!!!  We sang Christmas carols !!!!!!!!  Don't be a scrooge...it IS NOT too early to sing them!

Dinner was great.  Not only the food, the company.  David's parents were family way before my sister and him were married.  After all, Pamela and Dave were high school sweethearts.  Being in their home always brings warm fuzzies.

Yesterday, I spent the day with Stephen and his buddy from college.  The evening left me with laundry to catch up on, and I made rice (as requested) to complete the yummy dinner my sister had already started in a crock pot before she began her running around for the afternoon and evening.  Before bed time never seems to leave a dull moment.  I love those kids more than I could ever express.  They are smart and silly and unique and loving.  That's just for starters!

This cough is never going away.  Sweater weather isn't so bad.  Life of course, is good.  I can't complain.

Five grateful's before tuck in:
* Family
* Songs to sing
* Patience
* Sweaters
* Home made cake.

Sweet dreams.  I love y'all.

Please Say Prayers For:

Nathan ~ he's  starting chemo again Moday. * Prayer for Dawn ~ Ms Bobby ~ she is being treated with radiation. * Mr. Russo ~ continuing to win the battle. * Ms Pammy ~ recovering from surgery and winning the battle. * Cindy ~ she's in remission!! * Tammy she's in remission!!  * Momma Joyce ~ she had a successful surgery and is home recovering. * Ms Margie ~ she is winning her battle with breast cancer.  * Krissy's husband, John who continues to win the battle. *Trish ~ she is continuing to win her battle with breast cancer. *Sugar ~ she is continuing to win her battle with cancer. *Jay Carey and his family. He is in Iraq fighting the war.*Frances and her son, Matthew.  He is in Afghanistan.

Same Old, Same Old With No Complaints...

You won't be shocked.  Last night, Stephen and I met Barb at "The Pub" for pizza and drinks.  That was after he bowled three games scoring 208, 189, and 212.  What can I tell you...he's amazing!  Ohhh and for those of you that know her and love her...Barbi drank plenty enough for us all....meaning Stephen and I didn't drink and she needed an escort home!

After I got back on base, Pamela and I stayed up very late talking and watching the Food Network, and well...giggling of course.  There were many moments of "I need to go to bed..." BUT we stuck it out until 2:00 am or so.  My sister is the greatest!!!!

Today, Stephen and I went to lunch in Alexandria at Don Pablo's.  It was yummy.  The rest of the day we simply spent together quietly. We're  really quite a pair Stephen and I...both of us coughing and sniffling.  It's quite charming. :)

It's 38 degrees here.  I am grateful for a roof over my head, warm fuzzy socks, hot tea, being loved and tissues.  Count your blessings and remember to tell the people you love...that you do!

Sweet dreams.  I love y'all.

Please Say Prayers For:

Back In DC

Here I am back in DC.  Although the temperature is the same as it was when we left Anderson.  I swear it is at least 10 degrees colder here!  My lungs are very unhappy and I think I have a bit of a cold too.  No fun.

The drive back was uneventful.  I slept most of the way.  Thank goodness I can sleep anywhere!  That's what my Momma has said about me since I was a baby!!

My wake up call this morning from Stephen, was one that lacked enthusiasm. He has a fever of 103.  We won't be doing any snuggling until he remedies that!  :(

Tonight, we celebrated Georgia the dog's third birthday.  She was excited and so was the Browning Bunch.  So much so, that they all tried her birthday cookies.  Of course, I was appalled...even though my sister swore the ingredients consisted of only flour, molasses, ginger, honey, vanilla and cinnamon  I didn't' try one.  Can you say yuck??

I'm going to tuck in now.  Hopefully, I'll be bowling tomorrow.  I love y'all.

Please Say Prayers For:

Aunt Tania and Uncle Jerry * Nathan ~ he's starting treatment again and is back in the hospital * Ms Bobby ~ she is being treated with radiation. * Mr. Russo ~ continuing to win the battle. * MsPammy ~ recovering from surgery and winning the battle.

Extraordinary

It always seems like time flies, but believe me when I say the time was hardly taken for granted!  Thanksgiving and the weekend was absolutely fabulous.  I am beyond grateful that my family traveled to Anderson to share the holiday.  I don't even know where to start!  Oh wait, yes I do.  I peeled 22 potatoes and made the best mashed 'taters EVER!!  Ask anyone who attended! (Laughing...)

In total it was 16 of us. Me, Mom, Dad, The Browning Five, Uncle Gravy, Uncle Don, Aunt Arlene, Cousins Marsha, Lance, Alan, Jesse and Elan.  (I can't forget the three dogs: Cassie, Georgia and Max.)  All the food was GREAT. Not to mention the desserts which were to die for. The "company" was what made the meal however!

I'll preface this next part by telling y'all that Dad, Uncle Don and Uncle Gravy have been buddies since way back when.  As soon as they began reminiscing and telling stories, it was all giggles and laughter.  At some point, the "three musketeers" were left alone at the dinning room table.  I don't know how long they sat there carrying on.  I do know that I watched and listened for a bit from the kitchen.  For me, it was a very touching moment.  I imagine for them it was special as well.  Friendships like that, are irreplaceable.  I know they would agree.

Other note worthy happenings: It took Marsha and family 16 hours to drive to us from Philly, Uncle Don got lost again...and again...and yet again, the adults were all able to cram in at the dinning room table, Marsha stuck a burning candle in Lance's ear, Elan filmed it, Alan ate dessert (apparently this is very rare), Mom let us throw dinner rolls across the table, Daniel had a fever, Pamela broke her finger, we all went to the new house and sat on the deck until we couldn't take the chill any longer, (I'm sure there's more, my brain is falling asleep!!)

I think all of us would agree we don't spend nearly enough time together. "Life" occupies us with responsibilities, busy schedules, appointments and unexpected events.  Ironically, that is also what slows us down.  With that said, Aunt Gloria was missed terribly. Though she wasn't with us physically...I know she was watching over us anyway.

Tomorrow, I'm off to DC with Pamela and company. Just before the new year, she will deliver me back to South Carolina.  We will all ring in the new year together!!!

My family is extraordinary. I'm so very blessed. Please tell me some stories about YOUR Thanksgiving....

I must finish packing and go tuck in.  I love y'all.  Thank you for continuing this journey with me.

En Route

Uncle Don and Aunt Arlene arrived a little later than expected.  They took a three hour detour somehow (that was my way of saying they ummmm....got lost!)  However, they are here and we are thrilled. We enjoyed dinner and dessert with them at Tucker's.  I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am they are sharing Thanksgiving with us. Marsha, Uncle Gravy and "gang" are stuck in traffic in North Carolina.  Hopefully, they will make it into Anderson before midnight strikes....my cousin, Alan too.

Aunt Tania and Uncle Jerry, Rachel (FC) and Tom you will be missed tomorrow!!

To everyone - thank you for the Thanksgiving blessings.  I wish you nothing less than an abundance of love, laughter, great family, friends and food and of course blessings.

I'm off to the kitchen to WATCH my sister make all the stuffing for the bird!

I sure do love y'all!

Content

On my goodness!! The new house is beautiful.  Yesterday, we spent the majority of the day there.  I of course, camped out on the deck.  The sun was warm and bright.  It was an unusual 73 degrees.  I didn't want to move from that chair.  I was comfortable and content!  What more can anyone ask for?!!!!!!!!

It's great having my nieces and nephew here.  Everything is an event.  The laughter is contagious and there is so much love to go around.  They are amazing kids!

My Uncle Don gets here in the morning.  Well, by the time I post this it will already be Wednesday morning.  I know I've mentioned this before...I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HIM!!  YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The rest of my family will be here Thursday.

I had a fever today, and my cough is brutal.  My sister asked me (in humor of course) if I could stop coughing hard because it scares her!  I'm going to work on it, but I don't think I can comply.  Sorry, Pamela.

I'm going to close this for now.  I love y'all and will write soon.  I promise!!

What's Been Going On In My Neck Of The Woods

First let me apologize.  I never came back to tell everyone about the Doppler study.  I'm good.  No clots.  Phew...  Sure was glad.  I kept thinking to myself it would really suck to get admitted to the hospital and miss Thanksgiving with the family!!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, my sister and the kids will arrive here tomorrow!!!!!!!!  Oh how I love this time of year!!  We're all going to go see the new house.  It will be as much of a surprise to me as it will be for the Brownings.  I decided not to check out the progress until they were here.  Very cool!

I had a Girl Scout meeting today.  Those girls are wonderful.  We have another newbie who I am positive is going to be our "talker" of the bunch.  We had three different crafts, set up at three separate tables.  So, we each got a few girls at a time.  It was really pleasant because it gave me time to ask each of them questions about themselves and give them direct attention they may not normally get in a meeting where we are all together in one room. Trust me when I tell you, they all had questions they wanted to ask me too! I love my girl scouts.  I love you too Jules!!!

I feel ok.  Still coughing and the back pain goes away with the meds.  Can't complain.  Life is good.  : )

I'm going to close this now, time for bed.  I love y'all!  Oh wait...I promised I would include this...

GO CLEMSON!!

Ramblings Of The Day

My Aunt Tania told Mom that Lenore wasn't in pain when she got her angel wings. She also said that up and until she died, Lenore was completely in control of her own care from the doctors . For that, I am thankful.  You should know,that Lenore had the same attitude as I do as far as all this cancer and doctor stuff goes.  I didn't see her frequently but each time I did, she always left me feeling like we were bonded by unspoken words. I suppose we really were.  Thank you to everyone for their kind words and prayers.

The wind was blowing so hard today (actually by the time this posts it will be yesterday).  I'm sure it made the temperature feel at least 10 degrees colder than it truly was.  I did some running around anyway.  I'm guilty though, I only had a sweater (well pants too!  ha ha!) on and no coat.  I know, I know you don't have to lecture me....I do have a mother!!  I heard the temperature is going to drop into the 30's tonight.  I already have the extra blankets on my bed!  Bring it on....   :)

I'm having a Doppler study on my right leg tomorrow (today).

I have some bruising on that leg that I'm concerned about.  Ya see, each time I've discovered bruises like this...they have been blood clots.  So, I figure...better to be safe then sorry!

I'm taking Phenergan (anti nausea pill) on top of the Oxy's now. My tummy is again fighting any food that I swallow.  It's great that both meds work. REALLY!! However, not so great that I can barely function on both. Whoa Nelly~I am loopy!!

It's waaaaayyyyyyyyyyy after bedtime and I am so fighting my drooping eyes.  Say your prayers, count your blessings and don't forget I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
